I’ve never lived in Seattle! So with that disclaimer, please read this article knowing that I did my homework and am reacting to a piece I read online here.
The Seattle Area Dating Scene
So, the article talks about someone who warned someone not to move to Seattle because of the awful potential for meeting people for relationships. I’m more of one to meet and get dirty, but hey, we all have our issues, don’t we?
Then, the article speaks of someone who is just killing the game at Whole Foods, but let’s face it, I’m going to be stereotypical here and say that the Whole Foods in Seattle is NOT like the ones here in lovely Miami. I’m guessing it’s people talking about which type of granola is best, and which types of gluten free foods are trending. In Miami it’s all about just getting the latest juices and showing off those bodies after yoga class and walking around to see who has the bigger, faker boobs.
Again, complete stereotype, and I’ll probably be called names for my ignorance.
Point being, the article attempts to answer the question of “why does dating suck in Seattle as a whole?”
There are all sorts of reasons thrown out, from the fact that the tech jobs in the area bring out workaholics and not really the man who wants to go out on the town for a good time, to the fact that these tech transplants not from the area aren’t fitting in well with the scene.
Another reason is that Seattle is known as a place for people who love the outdoors. However, not everyone loves this, which can create a bit of a conundrum when you want to simply wine, dine, and 69, and she wants to go hiking.
Then, let’s add in that the Sports teams (minus the recent success of the Seahawks) all are terrible. Mariners? Please. Do they still have Ken Griffey Junior? A-Rod? Oh, okay.
The “Seattle Freeze” has also led to people being passive aggressive, apparently. Quite the opposite from the in your face, hollering at every turn East Coasters that frequent South Florida, the people up there are pretty chill. I imagine Netflix makes a fortune up there.
There are also a lot of Lesbians in Seattle.
Let’s close on that last note as a reason I’ll never live there. Sorry, I’m sure it’s a great place, but nothing will ever beat dating in South Beach.
